Basic Three

As exiting as it is that a new library opened in Portola Valley a couple of weeks ago, I just wanted to take the time to showcase the images as an example.

What kind of an example? What am I talking about?

I am talking about the basic rules I apply to my daily assignment and limited time schedule. I mentor a couple of people who would like to learn the photojournalism trade and I preach to them about how to approach a subject and the key to getting a good image out of a subject.

A lot of the time when you are covering a local event you can find your self no wanting to do it or not inspired to get a good image... especially when you only have about 15 min to capture what you need. So what the heck is you basic rule? you may ask.

Wide, close up / medium shot, and detail.

With a wide shot you are basically already covered even if all you other images did not turn out well. This is key because you never know what can happen.

Close up / Medium shot using a zoom or getting close with you wide angle is a very good idea and can be ran with a wide shot or run on its own showing impact

Detail shot can be used as a background or a filler or a billion other things it can be used for.

Those basic shots can be found within 15m min. If you have extra time then stick around and get creative... you never know what you can find!

Nice detail of the Ann Coulter book, that sums up a good portion of the area!
